A lovely soft wool batt for spinning or felting. This would make a great sturdy sock with the fibers of each having a staple length of 4"-5".
This 80g batt contains 80% of a taupe Romney cross wool and 20% gray alpaca. See pictures of each of the two fibers before carding. I ran them through the drum carder multiple times to make sure the fibers were thoroughly blended and smooth. There may be a few small bits of vegetable matter in it, but both fleeces were very clean to start with and I picked out anything I saw while processing.
They're both incredibly soft fibers, and I washed and processed them myself with care from raw fleeces. I didn't scour the wool harshly so there is a little bit of lanolin left in it.
Pearl, the Romney cross sheep, has beautiful crimpy locks with a lot of luster, it has been such a pleasure working with her wool. I took a 4"x4" knit sample that I had spun of her wool and put it in my washer with a load of towels - hot regular wash and then a trip in the hot dryer. I was amazed that it didn't felt at all and was, if possible, even softer after!
Alpaca does not felt as well as sheep wool because the fiber scales are much smaller. I would suggest that yarn made from this batt be handwashed and dried flat, although I do think it will be a very sturdy and hard-wearing yarn.

Most of my sewing has to wait until evening after a full day of schooling and playing with kids so it's difficult to do custom orders. I hope that as my kids get older, and I get more sleep, I can resume accepting custom orders!
